RELATIONSHIP GOALS : UNDERSTANDING EACH ONE'S ATTACHMENT STYLE

Psychology once thought me that there are different kinds of attachment. And there are a lot of attachment theories that you can search on the internet nowadays. Most of the articles I’ve read from psychologist suggests that . Our attachment style affects everything from our partner selection to how well our relationships progress and to, sadly, how they end.

DISCLAIMER : This is going to be a long article, so if a lot of you will request by sending me a comment on the chatbox in this blog. I probably make another article on this topic.

Let us first understand “What is attachment and why is it important?”

Attachment refers the particular way in which you relate to other people. Your style of attachment was formed at the very beginning of your life, during your first two years.  Once established, it is a style that stays with you and plays out today in how you relate in intimate relationships and in how you parent your children.

Now, let’s dig deeper and see what are the TYPES OF ATTACHMENT.

Secure Attachment:
Ideally, from the time infants are six months to two years of age, they form an emotional attachment to an adult who is attuned to them, that is, who is sensitive and responsive in their interactions with them. It is vital that this attachment figure remain a consistent caregiver throughout this period in a child’s life. During the second year, children begin to use the adult as a secure base from which to explore the world and become more independent. A child in this type of relationship is securely attached.

Avoidant Attachment:
There are adults who are emotionally unavailable and, as a result, they are insensitive to and unaware of the needs of their children. They have little or no response when a child is hurting or distressed. These parents discourage crying and encourage independence. Often their children quickly develop into “little adults” who take care of themselves.

Ambivalent/Anxious Attachment:
Some adults are inconsistently attuned to their children. At times their responses are appropriate and nurturing but at other times they are intrusive and insensitive. Children with this kind of parenting are confused and insecure, not knowing what type of treatment to expect.

Disorganized Attachment:
When a parent or caregiver is abusive to a child, the child experiences the physical and emotional cruelty and frightening behavior as being life-threatening. This child is caught in a terrible dilemma: her survival instincts are telling her to flee to safety but safety is the very person who is terrifying her.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Now that you have been introduced to the different types of attachment , probably it is time to assess yourself and find out how your style of attachment impacts of current relationship.

I might be posting an article soon on a quick assessment guide on your attachment style. Let me know if this will be relevant for you. Just send me a comment.

According to an article on pyschalive.org. attachment research demonstrates that “the best predictor of a child’s security of attachment is not what happened to his parents as children, but rather how his parents made sense of those childhood experiences.” The key to “making sense” of your life experiences is to write a coherent narrative, which helps you understand how your childhood experiences are still affecting you in your life today.

PH bet Jennifer Hammond gears up for Miss Intercontinental 2016

Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2016 Jennifer Hammond says there is definitely pressure for her to perform at this year's Miss Intercontinental contest in Colombo, Sri Lanka. She has to maintain or surpass the successful streak by former queens Kris Janson, who placed 2nd runner-up in 2014, and Christi Lynn McGarry, who placed 1st runner-up in 2015.

Live Streaming on Youtube here:

In an interview with Rappler.com she responded :

"Kailangan ko ma-maintain iyon or 'yung progress na iyon. So the only way to progress is to win the title. After first runner-up, we have to win. So doon ako mas pressured," she told reporters during the send-off party for her and fellow beauty queens Kylie Verzosa and Nicole Cordoves last September 28.(I need to maintain that, or that progress. So the only way to progress is to win the title. After first runner-up, we have to win. So that's where I'm more pressured.)

As for her fears about the contest, Jennifer said: "Sa lahat naman ng beauty pageant, there’s politics and I heard from some, off the grapevine, na medyo may politics. So ang fear ko lang is I don’t get the chance to compete with all of them equally and cleanly, parang ganun. Kasi I know naman that alam ko sa sarili ko na I'm prepared, and if I do what I would have to do, I'll do well. "

(In all beauty pageants, there's politics and I heard from some, off the grapevine, that there is a bit of politics. So my fear is I don't get to compete with all of equally, and cleanly, like that. Because I know that I'm prepared, and I do what I would have to, I'll do well.)
But despite these issues, Jennifer is focused on getting the much coveted Miss Intercontinental crown for the country. Before leaving for Sri Lanka, Jennifer went through a lot of training for walking, the question and answer round, and doing her own makeup.

As for representing the Philippines, Jennifer said that she will just be herself when she competes with the other candidates.

"I think I'm an epitome of isang Filipina. Dahil lumaki naman ako dito, at yung mga values natin ay meron ako nun. So I will just show them who I am pero yung polished me. I would treat them with respect and be friendly with them as we are known to be really friendly people," she said in a mixture of English and Filipino.

WHAT IS A GUESTLIST ?

What does it mean by putting your name on the guest list? Does it mean you have been invited? Does it mean you get in for free?

Well for novice party goers’ the term guest list can be confusing I am going to try and explain what is actually meant by the phrase guest list and what the advantages are of getting on the guest list and how you can go about getting on a guest list.

Your probably wondering why bars & clubs require a guest list and why people cannot just turn up as and when they please?

Well in most cases they can, but on other busier more popular days like the weekends and special event nights a guest list is in operation to help the bars & clubs control the numbers of guests.

The guest lists give the managers a good indication of whether the night is going to be busy or not and if they are going to need extra stock, staff or security.

As for party goers getting on the guest list for clubs has its advantages as it improves your chances of getting in without a long wait, but it’s not a guarantee.

It may also eliminate or reduce the cover charge at some clubs and not at others.

Trying to get your names on guest list 20 minutes before arriving is a big “no, no”! As most guest lists have a cut off time, so submitting your list early is highly recommended.

For some clubs, it’s a simple matter of calling early in the evening and asking to be put on the guest list. You may be referred to the club website or a specific promoter.

What’s a promoter I hear you ask?

Well, you can check on my old posts on this blog explaining what promoters do, what their duties and responsibilities are (that includes my job!). But for the benefit of my new readers. A promoter is usually a person who promotes various events and night for bars and clubs and is usually rewarded with commission for every paying customer they bring.

Some promoters provide access to their guest list, especially for new clubs, through postings on social networking sites such as Facebook or Twitter and Instagram which is the most common way for promoters to get the word out to a large audience with the least amount of effort. As for me I maintain a blog for club promotion among other media platform.

Having your name on a guest list does not guarantee you and your guest entry to the bar or club, there are other factors at play, i.e. dress code, time of arrival, and most importantly your behaviour and attitude.

However there are ways of improving your chances of getting in also, like reserving a table and agreeing to minimum spends on bottle service can be the best way of bypassing the lines and guest list problem.

So before you plan your night out quickly do your homework on the venue of your choice and see what the entry requirements are and if you tick all the right boxes then you should have no problems at all.
Well that’s pretty much it on guest lists we hope you enjoyed our quick lesson and we welcome you to browse through some of our other blogs, hopefully they will be as helpful as this one.

Being on the VALKYRIE Nightclub guest list under Arvil Cabatic provides the following benefits:

  • Get free entrance.
  • Ladies get reduced cover charge or free entrance (every venue is different). With Valkyrie ladies get free entrance and complimentary drinks every Wednesday Night.
  • Men and women skip the general admission line.
  • Once you have signed up on the list, show up to the venue before 11pm and check in at the club’s designated area for guest lists. With Valkyrie it’s really that easy.

WHAT IS EMOJI FASHION?

I am not a fashion expert and this article is not to criticize what I see around the metro. But I have seen it not only on Instagram but all over the mall as well. So I wanna know, is this what's trendy now? Emoji Prints from shirts to shoes? Please enlighten me!!!!

Photos are Versace Emojis check out : www.vogue.com

Emoji fashion

“It’s all about Instagram” is this decade’s fashion cliche. Thing is, it’s still true. At New York, the Insta-influence is in the emoji-style prints, and in the rise of theDancing Lady emoji as the ultimate party girl silhouette. Altuzarra, designed by 33-year-old Joseph Altuzarra, was an out-of-the-box hit, with more lemons and cherries than a millennial WhatsApp group and a gorgeously sultry silhouette. J Crew’s long, ruffled skirts in fine blue cotton gave a chic, toned-down take on the scarlet Dancing Lady.

WHAT DOES VOGUE HAS TO SAY WITH THIS TREND?

Scribes among us might have been surprised, shocked even, when the Oxford Dictionaries chose the “Face With Tears of Joy” emoji as its word of the year. Well, if recent pop-cultural and fashion trends are any indication, the emojification of our once text-based society is set to become the norm. The announcement that Apple would add more than 100 new and redesigned emoji to its next iOS update was headline news yesterday; meanwhile celebrities from Kim Kardashian West to Justin Bieber to Blac Chyna have their own emoji ranges and fashion brands are joining in on the action, with the illustrated faces appearing on several runways this year. The latest label to get in the emoji game is Acne Studios, which released a collection of emoji hats, tees, and sweaters yesterday. Its icons of choice? The banana, pig nose, doughnut, microphone, hamburger, and, according to a press release, “a brown swirl of mousse.”

At Chanel, Lagerfeld has featured the symbols in two of his recent runway shows. Consider how often he changes inspirations and this is a big get for emoji.

MARC PINGRIS TRIBUTE ON JAMES YAP

It was all over the twitter world last night #JamesYap. One of the first to react to James Yap’s trade to Rain or Shine was teammate Marc Pings . Yap and Pings are more than just teammates. They are longtime friends/buddies having spent more than a decade playing together in the same team (Purefoods).

Pings tweeted his sadness that Yap will no longer be part of the team. On his Instagram account , he even posted :

Yap was traded by Purefoods for Paul Lee. Meanwhile James Yap thanked Purefoods for his 12 years of stay in the team. "Maraming salaam sa pure foods family ko sa lahat ng pag aalaga at pagtitiwala nyo sa akin ng 12 years..."

The trade was announced last night and the approval by the PBA Commissioner is still in pending status as of this writing.

KIM KARDASHIAN BACK ON TRACK ?

Kim Kardashian’s back on Twitter, but it's not what you think.

The E! reality star, whose personal life took a sudden turn following her involvement in a Parisian robbery two weeks ago, recently made an unconventionally quiet return to the same platform that many believe threatened her privacy.

Fans were quick to notice Kardashian downsized her social media ratio, unfollowing 14 people. It's unclear which of Kim's 121 followed accounts were ultimately given the axe, though she still follows every immediate member of her famous family. Kim's latest online activity is especially notable given that it's the first since the life-threatening incident.

Philippines : Nationwide Smoking Ban - SOON ?

This will change the lives of many Filipinos. Both for the smokers and non-smokers. Makati City strongly implement this. You cannot just smoke anywhere you want. I know the feeling since I'm a smoker and works in the vicinity of Makati City.

Good news to non-smokers out there: We are now getting closer to having a law imposing a nationwide smoking ban in public places. While a similar ordinance is in effect in Davao City, the idea of having the smoking ban nationwide puts us on the same level as Singapore and South Korea in terms of having strict smoking laws.

The bill that awaits the signature of President Rodrigo Duterte prohibits smoking in public places, both indoor and outdoor, but will provide designated smoking areas 10 meters away from buildings.

While there are some people, particularly smokers, opposing the idea, the proposed bill is generating a positive response in general. Here are a few benefits of the soon-to-be-signed Nationwide Smoking Ban ordinance:

1. Our country will become more organized in effect. By implementing designated spots for smoking, smokers will now think twice before lighting up a stick. This may sound like a burden for smokers, but it will definitely make a world of difference for those who do not smoke and do not want to suffer from the effects of secondhand smoke.

2. Less secondhand smoking-related diseases. Do not take secondhand smoking lightly; non-smokers can acquire various diseases (lung cancer included) through the smoke exhaled by smokers. Studies show that around 42,000 die from secondhand smoke in America alone. That being said, imposing a nationwide smoking ban can help non-smokers lower their risk of getting lung disease, lung cancer, and heart attack.

3. A more livable environment in Metro Manila. By confining smoking to specific places, our environment will be less polluted, and we get to breathe air that's cleaner and healthier than usual. A healthier environment would mean less hospital visits and less medical expenses for people.

4. Increased safety for both people and the surroundings. By limiting places where people can smoke, the possibility of explosions and fires caused by cigarette butts will be reduced as well. Engineers and designers will put into consideration factors like ventilation and materials when designing designated smoking areas so even the safety (and welfare) of smokers are also taken care of.

5. Better business for establishments. How? A smoking ban can mean increased productivity as it reduces the chances of employees being absent due to illness, and it also helps in keeping the establishment in tip top shape; this is especially crucial to those involved in the food and manufacturing industry.

So, are you all ready for this change towards a healthier Philippines?

HASHTAG SAVE TWITTER

It has been all over the news in the US and UK that Twitter will shut down early 2017.

Why do some people think Twitter is shutting down in 2017?

Truth doesn't often get in the way of a good social media rumour. But word that one of the giants of social media platforms decided to shut down got the microblogging community all fired up.

The hashtag #SaveTwitter was the world's top trend as of Thursday morning. Intriguingly, Twitter didn't rush to debunk it either.

The rumour doing the rounds is that outspoken YouTuber BradTheLadLong, who posts videos commenting on celebrities, had saved copies of all the abuse he has received on the social media platform and managed to convince the powers-that-be that Twitter is not doing a good enough job in protecting people from online abuse.

So as a result of Brad's lobbying, Twitter, the story goes, decided to shut up shop next year. And Brad's Twitter account is certainly not discouraging the idea that Twitter's little blue bird is due to get its neck wrung.

Hopefully Twitter will not be out of the social media platform list. Since this is my favorite social media platform.

DLSU.
We feature the DLSU Animo Squad’s halftime performance where they had to face sideways, the basket, due to the DLSU vs ADMU game’s seating arrangement. While others would be unnerved by this unusual blocking, the Taft squad remained ready and heartened despite the curveball. Watch here: DLSU

UE.
The halftime routine is a showcase of the UE Pep Squad’s huge increase in skill-level. Here we see a nicely done step-out doubles toss, stable tic-ups, all X-doubles landing in cradle, mad tumbling skills, and fast pyramid transitions. The 2015 winning teams better not rest on their laurels at this point. UE’s bomba is ready to explode. Watch here: UE

FEU.
This halftime routine from the FEU Cheering Squad could pass as a Cheerdance Competition routine. It has all the elements needed: dance, tosses, pyramids, lifts, jumps and tumblings. Sit back because “there’s no place you’d rather be.” Watch here: FEU

UP.
What a perfect day to show the UP Pep Squad ‘s eternal cheerdancing expertise. The routine is performed during their game against NU, home of the reigning Cheerdance champions. The 8-time champions from Diliman are sending everyone a convincing message through their sharply executed routine: A resounding readiness to reclaim top plum this year. Watch the routine here: UP

UST.
As a performer, what do you do when the music stops in the middle of your performance? You go on and don’t let that shake you, says the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe who continues on with their impressive number even after experiencing a technical error. Watch here: UST

TIPS FOR PLANNING A CORPORATE CHRISTMAS PARTY

Corporate Christmas parties are what every employee looks forward to at the end of the work year. They’ve put in the hours to make the business a success this year, and the Christmas party is a way of saying “thank you” for all the hard work. It’s the perfect time to kick back, relax, and enjoy the celebrations all provided by the corporation. It’s a great morale-booster, one that will end the year on a positive note and encourage employees to come back to work next year happier and more productive than ever!

Planning a corporate Christmas party can be a lot more challenging than you’d think! A lot goes into making sure the party is properly organised, and there are a lot of pieces that have to fall into place, in the right order to pull corporate Christmas parties off without a hitch. We’ve come up with a few tips to help you with planning your corporate party, tips that will ensure you get everything just right to give your employees the time of their lives!

SET THE RIGHT DATE AND TIME

There are two elements that go into choosing “the right” date and time for your party:
  • Availability – Remember that most companies and corporations are going to be planning a similar party around the same time of year. Those last days before the winter holidays are going to be busy for party venues, who will be hosting multiple private and corporate Christmas parties. You want to make sure to plan a date and time when your preferred venue has an available booking.
  • Your employees’ schedules – You need to know what is the last “official” day of work, and plan a party on that day. NO ONE wants to come back to work the day after the office Christmas party! Contact Human Resources to find out what is the last official day of work, and schedule the party for that afternoon or evening.

ASK FOR FEEDBACK ON THE PREVIOUS YEAR’S PARTY

If you want to find out what people are looking forward to in their Christmas party, why not simply ask them? Draft up a questionnaire with a few simple questions like:
  • What was your favorite part of last year’s Christmas party?
  • What would you like to see again?
  • What did you dislike about last year’s Christmas party?
  • What would you prefer was not included this year?
People can give you their feedback on their likes and dislikes of the previous year’s party and their responses will help you to plan a party filled with the elements that people liked.

TRY A THEME

Technically, the theme for a Christmas party is usually “Christmas”, which means everyone comes dressed in their Christmas best and enjoys a party with hot chocolate, cookies, sweet treats, presents, Christmas carols, and so on.
But if that’s how you always do it, why not break the mould and try a fun, creative theme such as:
  • Tropical – How about going in the opposite direction this year? Instead of hosting a typical stuffy Christmas party, crank up the heat, install bright lights, and go for a tropical theme. It’s a great way to do something new, and it can be a fun change to the Christmas vibe.
  • Winter Wonderland – Cover everything in white artificial snow, and have an ice luge to serve the alcohol. Serve cold snacks, icy drinks, and keep the décor dazzling white and sparkling!
  • Ugly Sweater – Have a competition to see who can wear the ugliest Christmas sweater, with prizes for all the winners!

DON’T SKIMP OUT ON THE FOOD AND DRINK

As much as you want to believe your employees are at the party for the sake of company morale, really they’re there just to kick back and relax. You can be certain that a good number of them are there because they’re looking forward to eating and drinking on the company dime.

HAVE SOMEONE MANAGE THE EVENT

You are going to have to have someone in charge of not just coordinating and setting up the event, but also running things during the party itself. The party committee may want to give one person the job of keeping things running smoothly, or you can hire a day-of coordinator to ensure that everything goes off without a hitch.
You may not think this is necessary, but it absolutely is! There are so many things that can go wrong (with equipment, food, drink, entertainment, serving staff, the guests, facilities, etc.), so you need someone on hand who can handle any trouble as it arises.

HIRE THE RIGHT ENTERTAINMENT

Most party planners immediately think to hire DJs or a band, but if your employees aren’t keen on dancing, why not consider hiring an acting troupe, a stand-up comedian, a comedic magician, or some other unique form of entertainment? Try thinking outside the box to make this Christmas party fun and fresh!

HAVE AN AMPLE BUDGET

Most corporations will set aside a certain amount of money every year for corporate Christmas parties, knowing how important they are to the employees. However, it’s your job to make that money stretch as far as possible.
  • Step 1: Look for affordable vendors. That doesn’t mean “go cheap”, but it means look for the vendors (venues, caterers, entertainment, décor, etc.) that offer the best value for the money you’re spending.
  • Step 2: Try to find all-in-one services. Instead of hiring a number of different vendors for all of your services, try to find vendors that provide everything. The bundled costs of all their services will usually be cheaper than hiring a number of different vendors.
  • Step 3: Spend on the important elements first. Most people will enjoy a Christmas party as long as there is music and plenty of food and drinks. These are the things that matter most, so most of your budget should go to those things. Décor, venues, and extras all come after you’ve hired a good caterer and DJ/band.

CHOOSE A UNIQUE VENUE

After a year spent in your offices and conference rooms, it’s going to be tough for your employees to get into the “party spirit” if they don’t get out of their usual environment. This means you’ll definitely want to look into venues OUTSIDE your corporate building or offices.

VALKYRIE NIGHTCLUB THE PALACE MANILA

In two years of operation Valkyrie maintained to be the number one party venue in the Philippines, with it's spacious and top of the line facilities not to mention world-class service from its VIP host. You can never go wrong in choosing Valkyrie as your party venue for your corporate party.
