Trivia about Ladies Night

Have you ever wondered why most clubs celebrate Wednesday as their ladies night? . We are all aware that this is a promotional event for bars and clubs to invite more customers, guests reason why they throw a ladies night once every week.

ladies' night is a promotional event, often at a bar or nightclub, where female patrons pay less than male patrons for the cover charge or drinks. In the United States, state courts in CaliforniaMarylandPennsylvania and Wisconsin have ruled that ladies' night discounts are unlawful gender discrimination under state or local statutes. However, courts in IllinoisMinnesota, and Washington have rejected a variety of challenges to such discounts. - Wikipedia.

But have you ever asked yourself? Why Wednesday among all the days of the week? Why does bars and clubs marketing decided to do it every Wednesday. Let's dig deeper about the clubs reason behind their Ladies Night.

I tried to do my research but there's few literature about the history of "Ladies Night" but that did not stop me from looking for the information that I need to know. Because I am really curious about it.

Most of the information I found online is theoretical.

"Ladies' nights make good economic sense for most clubs, because they draw the largest crowds. Women come for the free drinks, and men come for the women." - Sonnet Fitzgerald, Google Plus

While researching I found out that in the US, there was even a time that this "Party-Theme" created a conflict among citizens because some claims that there is a "gender-equality" issue since ladies are getting less charge or even free of charge from their drinks, while men pay the regular price of their drinks.

Maybe this concept of Ladies Night has a simple equation:

Free drinks for women = lots of women AND men come to your bar.

Free drinks for men = lots of men come to your bar.

As the cliche' goes.... The rest is history.

Enjoy Ladies Night tonight at Valkyrie of The Palace Manila.

The Relevance of Club Promoters

Many people may think that the job of a club promoter is "easy peasy, lemon squeezy". But I have to totally disagree with you. Elite Nightclub like Valkyrie is a fascinating place, you will see a lot of  celebrities Famous DJs spinning records, bartenders and mixologists crushing fresh herbs for special cocktails and beautiful people dancing all make for an exciting sensory overload.

"Part of the challenge in the nightclub industry is maintaining a steady flow of customers; when the crowd thins, guests assume that the nightclub is losing popularity and move on to the next hot location. " -Anonymous

Club promoters help maintain enthusiasm for a venue among clubbers by offering special promotions to their guest and social circle keeping guest lists filled with big spenders, famous clientele and attractive people.

And these are the expertise of this two people from The Palace Manila. Arvil Cabatic, Senior Party Organizer for Valkyrie and Pool Club together with another Promoter , Vin Halili Apostol. They both have a solid social circle keeping the enthusiasm in the club. So add their number on your contact list and just mention their name at the reception are of Valkyrie/Pool Club of The Palace Manila. And they will take care of you from there on.

GUESTLIST

Club promoters cultivate rosters of party people who can be counted on to spend money and time at their chosen venues, according to March 2013 article on the Elite Daily website. Promoters create guest lists by communicating with potential customers via email, social media or phone to get the names of guests and how many people are in their party. Because guest lists help promoters determine how busy an upcoming night will be, they can pass on numbers to bar managers or club supervisors to help plan ordering or staffing needs.

Promotions
Developing and running alcohol promotions is another aspect of club promoting, according to "King of Clubs," an article in " Inc." magazine. Promoters sometimes build relationships with alcohol vendors to get complimentary bottles of champagne, wine or hard liquor to be used in specialty drinks related to the nightclub event. Alcohol vendors sometimes “donate” free or discounted bottles for a special event in exchange for having their brand or logo listed on promotional materials, such as flyers or email newsletters send to regular customers.

Special Treatment
Club promoters can be an important liaison between customers and nightclub staff. While regular bartenders and cocktail servers do their best to offer excellent customer service, it’s the job of the club promoter to provide special services and privileges to repeat customers or customers known for spending, according to Club Planet.com. A club promoter might send over a complimentary bottle of champagne to a VIP table celebrating a 21st birthday, for example, or order a round of shots for a bachelor party.

We are One Team! And We will definitely attend to your parties need at Valkyrie and Pool Club of The Palace Manila.

I am happy that I will be handling events for this team . It is an honor to collaborate with this two professional.

Now trending in Social Media #closeupforeversummer2016

I am browsing thru all the social media platform as part of my daily routine and I came across several promotional materials for "Close up, Forever Summer 2016". Whoah!!! too early! Although I can feel the humidity already which for me signals the start of summer. Does anyone of you remember when Close-up launch this rave party? Because I don't, and if my memory serves me right Close-up started outdoor party/street party by organizing loovapalooza (which I am not pretty sure if they still organize the same event nowadays, so please do not quote me on that!).

So I ponder I bit and recollet my thoughts, "How many rave party have I ever experienced in my lifetime?". I remember vividly few of those moments, then I said to myself.  When you go to a rave, you are normally there for several hours, why does it look like you just got out of the shower? If you get hot, simply leave the crowd and relax for a bit, then come back in, no one around you in the crowd appreciates you — regardless of how well you can dance. I suddenly feel weirdness. Maybe rave party isn't really for me.

I am actually not a fan of rave party because of the following reasons:

Reason Number 1: You end up realizing that you are being surrounded by "kids" who claims they are over 18 years old. But because of the way they behave they are clearly in high school.
Reason Number 2 : People who try too hard! You know who you are!!!.
Reason Number 3: You will definitely bump into people who is drenched in sweat.

Everyone loves a good rave these days. Whether you’re going to see your favorite DJ, or going to one of the biggest festivals, it’s just all very exciting. And what is still so new to our society has become the social norm: raves are the newest thing for us to do.
So mark your calendar, save the day since this will be on May 21, 2016 expect a lot of teens will be in the event. Just be patient with them, it'll be fun. See yeah!

Career in Style

I am excited to work on this article because I will feature one of the people that possess the most pleasant personality that I know from the clubbing industry. She is very fashion forward yet remains classy and chic. But more than her fashion sense, she's very successful with her chosen career path and for most of young women that desires to be in the clubbing industry she is someone that they can look up to.

I was lucky to have this chance to know more about her so without any further delay let's get to know more about Ms. Dee Viray and learn how to be gracious and glamorous while working in the club.

When did you start working at a club?

The Housekidz
I started working as promoter at Icon Ultimate Club, mid year of 2012. That's where I met , my now best friend, Eriq Windsor, eventually became partners in promoting the club. During that time he was a promoter and at the same time the leader of the group which is "The Housekidz" .  The Housekidz, promotes local House DJs, well bascially we promote house music.

Dee and  her bestfriend Eriq

At first, all I wanted to do was to help him out and never really get paid  from it. He then decided to make me as his partner, from then on I decided to be a full time promoter, resigned with my day job and concentrated on promoting the club.

"Eriq, my best friend, and the people I met along the way thought me a lot of things in the industry, mainly putting my feet on the ground and of course, RESPECT. "

NEW CHAPTER IN HER CAREER ...

Dee at work as a "Door Bitch"
"Time in Manila then hired me as their "Door bitch." They thought me a lot specially with the administrative work. More importantly, I learned the in and out's of the clubbing industry that includes organizing outside events."

"I even handled 2 international artists working as their road manager. I then decided to step up my career and applied for the other company well known in the business and was then hired as a VIP Services Supervisor. "

"I started handling Republiq Club, then Universe night club and lastly Valkyrie night club which is the first club that opened at The Palace Manila, Uptown BGC."

Moving right along with our email conversation I asked Dee additional questions about her journey working in the Clubbing industry.

What type of people have you come across with and how did you manage to handle them?

In a span of 2-3 years in this industry, I encountered a lot of people with different personalities and learned how to handle each and one of them.

"Through handling the door, I learned how to read people and have my judgement call when needed. Which is very important. You have to learn how to think whats good for you or for the club and at the same time what's in it for the guest."

Dee continues ... "Complaints will always be there no matter. It’s a matter of how you will handle the complaint and find a resolution right away.  You have to know everyone, like your regulars, your VIPs VVIPs etc…."

"Grace Under Pressure"

How do you take care of difficult guests ?

"Easy", let them vent out first and listen to their complaint.

Once they are done "ranting", that’s the time you may explain what happened and at the same time you need to have a resolution for them right away.

"In this industry, there are some instances that guests are really difficult that you have no choice but to send them out of the club."

For example, guests who curse or sometimes being physical. I just hate guests who have attitude. Dee stressed out "I respect the people who work in the club, from front liners, to the waitstaff and utilities"…. She explains that ,"If guests cant respect them and cant handle their attitude, might as well not go clubbing"

On a serious note as he continues... "that’s how I read people (guests in particular),how they treat the staff of a specific club."

Dee and her Fashion Sense at Work

Many of us object to being judged for employment based on how we look. We prefer to be hired because of our skills and abilities, not because of our dress and grooming. BUT like it or not, appearance is important.

Let us now dig deeper on Ms.Dee's fashions style and how she maintain to be in the loop of what is "Yay or Nay" when it comes to Club wear.

Photo of Dee during a Halloween Ball
Who's your fashion icon?

I really don’t have one in particular. When styling myself, I'm just being myself and it’s the only way I know how to express myself everyday.

You were featured at enhance.net how does it feel that you are being looked up to by young Clubbers ?

Photo Grabbed from enhanced.net
I totally forgot about being featured on the website and I really don’t see myself being looked up to. It’s a very humbling experience for people to know you and now being told that im being looked up to by the young crowd. Again, I always just put my feet on the ground. Surprisingly people do know me when I cant even remember where and when I met them. But definitely it was an honor for me to be of service and to be a role model for some aspiring promoters and VIP Services Officer.

The clothes you wear affect all your attitude and confidence levels. When people take the time to dress for success, they tend to feel good about themselves. Image alone will not win the job offer, but it will go along way in building respect. ***Source: http://www.columbustech.edu/career-connections/attire.htm

RULE OF THUMB in STYLING by Dee Viray :

"Less is more" even in accessorizing.

I really don’t wear too much accessories and keep it to a minimum. In fact, I always wear the same watch or necklace over and over again till I get a new favorite piece.

Black will always be elegant and sexy no matter what for me. You’ll rarely see me with printed or colored tops. And lastly, just because its "IN",  it suits you already. NO IT DOESN’T GO THAT WAY .

I always make sure that I have my own style that people will remember me of. Explore and don’t be afraid to mix and match.

Dee Viray's Fashion Essentials

Invest in good shoes, watches and bags as well. Oh, and always make sure you have the basic clothing necessities such as white collared shirts, round neck shirts, a nice jeans, slacks, a good coat etc…..

Career advice for young girls out there who wants a career as a VIP host supervisor

My advise for them?

"Passion, Hardwork and Commitment". Its not just getting paid for your job, you really need to know how everything works.

The young girls don’t really see whats happening before the clubs open and it is where the action really starts. I have huge respect to the big bosses for all the stress that they endure everyday. Not to scare them thou, but if you really want to be in this industry, you need to know what you really are going into.

What in it for Dee Viray this 2016?

More success and adventure in life. Im a single mother of 4 kids  and all I wanted in life is to give them a good life and pure happiness.  I don’t normally plan and live my life day by day. I always believe that God has a plan for me.

And before we close our conversation it interest me to ask since most of people experience this after all the alcohol intake after clubbing.

HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO STAY GLAMOROUS ON A TRASHY DAY? Dee laughed and answered . "OMG! I feel trashy everyday" . Hydrate is the key, "if you can get sleep. Please do. I guess sleep makes me look "OK" the next day or so. I rarely take vitamins but I suggest that you do and choose to be happy .

There you go folks. I learned a lot from her, very inspiring words hope you got tips and tricks from "Dee" one and only Dee Viray.

Humble Beginnings to One step closer to success

All of us may experience a time in our life wherein we consider our lowest point. But this experiences as we go along our journey helps us improve ourselves, strive harder and push our limits. But once we are on the peak of what we want to achieve in life, looking back we will consider those experience as our "humble beginnings". Even Donald Trump has his own fair share of humble beginnings, though as for me what he had gone thru may not be a humbling experience, it is still extravagant by starting a $1 Million loan from his father to start his empire.

Jhay Isidro, a familiar face among Clubbers up in North also has his humble beginnings. I had a chance to meet him last year while promoting a club within that area as well. Jhay as many people know him is very reserved even when he is inside the club. First impression to him will be the serious type of guy. But yes! he is serious with his job. That is why he is just being observant when he is inside the club.

I had the chance to talk to him and he told me all about his humble beginnings. "Una kong napasok na club is encore super club at the fort imperial na sya now that was 2010. I think haha tinatakan ako nung invisible sabi ko pa "bakit walang stamp?". Wala pa kong ka alam alam sa clubbing" he continues, since music lover kaya sabi ko "Wow I like this kind of place!" although I don't drink hahahaha.

"Then after that after few months sinama ako ng friend ko his name is Paulo Magnayon sya tlaga yun nag mulat sakin sa iba't-ibang clubs. Sa tomas morato FLUX SUPERCLUB. So ayun hanggang sa everyweek nan dun kame nag jijeep lng kame bababa pa kame malayo ng konti sa club para di nakakahiya na naka jeep kame."

I admire Jhay for being honest on this one. I know many people also do the same thing trying to conceal that they take the public utility vehicle in going to the clubs which should not be case. But then again lifestyle of the rich and famous is rampant in the clubs so, we can't blame them if this is something most people conceal.

Getting back to Jhay's story. "Then after 2 years of clubbing sa Morato Be Bold, Candy Shop, Excess, Flux, Bliss tumigil ako sa gimik kasi kaka pagod. May maliit na club malapit samen then yun party ulit, I have a friend na pumaparty lang din. Nag promoter so napa isip ako sinubukan ko mag promote after years of promoting nag event organizer ako sa Skout Republique Super Club."

Jhay Isidro wearing Jersey No.10

Memorabilia of Jhay with his guests/friends/colleagues
This is how Jhay was able to establish most of his connections non-stop partying and North-side of the clubbing scene became his territory.

Khalibu Palace, Cabanatuan
"There was a time back then that he have set aside parties, clubs and his career as a Marketing Manager because he needs to focus with their family business. Jhay recalls "Pero hinahanap ng katawan ko yun club, music and the crowd . Suddenly may nag message sa akin sa Facebook, from Khaliblu Super Club, Cabanatuan. Pinaka malaking club sa region na yun that time. Pinag oorganize ako ng foam party so nag punta ako dun after a month hinire nila ako as Marketing, nag stay in ako after ilan months na promote ako as Assistant Operations Manager then few months as Operation Manager. "

Jhay believes in hands on Management reason why as he relates his story being the Operations Manager of Khalibu . "Sometimes ako nag iilaw sa dj kahit Operation Manager ako so after a year nag resign ako ang layo kasi then wala akong day off as in."

"Then my friend Abhie (which is one of the persons that also opened the door for me in the Clubbing scence) called me to promote again at Prime Upscale Club from Operations Manager to promoter again? Woo 1month lang tinagal ko tumigil ako kasi parang diko na kaya mag promote. So after few months Allen Areña a.k.a DJ Stove called me. Ni refer nya ko sa oblivion superclub I was rejected by that time then after months again my friend DJ Shui Pingli refered me to same club Oblivion hahaha natatakot pa ko baka ma reject ako so after ako ma interview na tanggap ako as Marketing Manager again."

I asked Jhay what's his plan for 2016? He immediately replied : "This 2016 my plan is 3 music festival and to organize more parties."

As of this writing Jhay Isidro remains the Marketing Manager of the club and he has an upcoming foam party but he has not disclosed the details of it to me yet.

As we close our conversation I asked Jhay what business etiquette that he live with. "Pasensya lng tlaga yun lng tlaga secret ko hahaha hinahabaan ko pasensya at pang intindi ko. "

Being in this industry is not an easy job different people from all walks of life . How do you manage to handle all of them? "Siguro para tumagal sa industry need mo tlaga ng mahabang pasensya be humble always and work hard tlaga."

Message to your haters/bashers :

Sa haters? Keel on hatin', i'll give u more reasons to hate me. Haha (success) hahahha.

Of course his journey in the clubbing scene will not be possible without the help of his friends/colleagues and he would like to acknowledge the following :
